President’s Message – Feb/March 2014
This month’s meeting of the Polk County Bar Association will be its annual Bench and Bar Luncheon where members of the judiciary and bar come together on Tuesday, February 11 at the Downtown Marriott. Chief Justice Mark Cady of the Iowa Supreme Court will be the luncheon speaker. Click here for more information.
The event will also recognize the Polk County lawyers who have provided pro bono representation of clients served by the Polk County Bar Association’s sister organization, the PCBA Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP). Members of the Iowa Bar have an aspirational requirement to provide at least 50 hours of pro bono service annually. The VLP identifies clients needing legal representation on important matters and provides lawyers with the opportunity to serve them. During the past year VLP volunteers spent 4,509 hours on these matters and closed 966 cases. Information on VLP volunteer opportunities are distributed periodically to PCBA members. I encourage anyone who has not volunteered for a VLP matter to do so and discover what a rewarding experience it is.
And as you renew your PCBA membership, please consider contributing to the PCBA VLP. Click here to learn more.
